背景
APP A4 (Amyloid Precursor Protein A4) is a precursor protein that is primarily expressed in neurons and is best known for its association with Alzheimer's disease. APP undergoes proteolytic cleavage by enzymes, such as secretases, resulting in the production of various fragments, including beta-amyloid (Aβ) peptides. These peptides can aggregate to form amyloid plaques, a hallmark feature of Alzheimer's disease. While APP A4 is implicated in neurodegeneration, it also plays a role in normal cellular processes like cell signaling, growth, and synaptic function. The study of APP and its cleaved products, particularly Aβ, is central to understanding the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease and developing potential therapeutic strategies.
