背景
VCAM-1 (Vascular Cell Adhesion Molecule 1) is an integral membrane protein primarily expressed on the surface of endothelial cells in response to inflammatory stimuli. It plays a critical role in leukocyte adhesion and migration during immune responses. VCAM-1 binds to VLA-4 (Very Late Antigen-4) on circulating leukocytes, facilitating their attachment to the endothelium and subsequent movement into tissues during inflammation. This process is vital for immune cell trafficking, particularly in conditions such as autoimmune diseases, inflammatory disorders, and atherosclerosis. VCAM-1 is also implicated in tumor metastasis and the progression of cardiovascular diseases, making it an important target in research on immune regulation and vascular health.
