背景
Doublecortin (DCX) is a microtubule-associated protein that plays a crucial role in neuronal migration and neurogenesis, particularly during brain development. It is highly expressed in neuroblasts and immature neurons and is essential for the proper organization and movement of these cells within the developing brain. DCX stabilizes microtubules and facilitates the structural integrity of neuronal processes, enabling cells to migrate to their appropriate locations in the cerebral cortex and other brain regions. Mutations in the DCX gene are linked to X-linked lissencephaly and subcortical band heterotopia, disorders characterized by abnormal neuronal migration and cortical malformations. The protein also plays a role in neuroplasticity and has been studied for its potential involvement in neurodegenerative diseases and brain repair.
