背景
MHC class I polypeptide-related sequence A (MICA) is a protein that belongs to the MHC (Major Histocompatibility Complex) class I family, though it is not involved in the typical antigen presentation to T cells. MICA is primarily expressed on the surface of stressed cells, including those infected by viruses, transformed, or undergoing stress responses. It is recognized by NKG2D, a receptor present on natural killer (NK) cells and certain T cells, which triggers an immune response. MICA plays a key role in immune surveillance by helping the immune system identify and eliminate abnormal or stressed cells. Alterations in MICA expression have been associated with various conditions, including cancer and autoimmune diseases, making it an important target in immunotherapy research.
