背景
Aldh1L1 (Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1 family member L1) is an enzyme belonging to the aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) superfamily. It plays a key role in cellular detoxification by catalyzing the oxidation of toxic aldehydes, such as formaldehyde and retinaldehyde, converting them into less harmful substances. Aldh1L1 is primarily expressed in the brain, particularly in astrocytes, and is involved in glutamate metabolism, which is crucial for maintaining the balance of excitatory neurotransmitters. Its activity is important for protecting neural cells from oxidative stress and damage. Additionally, Aldh1L1 has been studied in relation to neurodegenerative diseases, where its dysfunction may contribute to neuroinflammation and neuronal injury.
