CXCL5 (C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 5), also known as ENA-78, is a chemokine involved in the recruitment of neutrophils to sites of inflammation. It binds to the CXCR2 receptor on neutrophils, facilitating their migration to areas of infection or injury. CXCL5 plays a crucial role in acute inflammatory responses, particularly in conditions such as lung inflammation, asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In addition to its role in neutrophil recruitment, CXCL5 is involved in regulating immune cell interactions and may contribute to the development of chronic inflammatory diseases when dysregulated.
