背景
53BP1 (TP53-binding protein 1) is a crucial protein involved in the cellular response to DNA damage and the maintenance of genomic stability. It plays a central role in the repair of double-strand breaks (DSBs), particularly through the non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) repair pathway. 53BP1 interacts with the tumor suppressor protein p53 and other DNA repair factors, coordinating the repair of damaged DNA and ensuring the proper functioning of cell cycle checkpoints. By stabilizing DNA damage sites, 53BP1 also regulates cell fate decisions, including cell survival and apoptosis. Given its role in genomic integrity, 53BP1 is implicated in the development of cancers and neurodegenerative diseases, where defects in DNA repair mechanisms can lead to mutations and genomic instability.
